Mooiplaas Merlot/Cabernet Franc

Das Weingut Mooiplaas liegt in den Botterlary Hills in der Nähe von Stellenbosch, der ältesten Stadt Südafrikas. Die Weinberge sind Teil eines privaten Naturschutzgebiets von unberührter Schönheit. Prähistorische Mineralböden nähren die Reben an den steilen Hängen und bilden das Rückgrat der saftigen, tiefen Weine mit ihrer fruchtigen und mineralischen Struktur.
Der Eigentümer und Winzer Louis Roos vergärt den Most auf traditionelle Weise spontan in kleinen Eichenfässern mit der natürlichen Hefe. Hier mischt er zwei ikonische Bordeaux-Rebsorten: 60 % Merlot und 40 % Cabernet Franc. Der Merlot bringt Frucht und Eleganz, während der Cabernet Franc köstliche Würze und Struktur hinzufügt.
Die Merlot- und Cabernet-Franc-Trauben werden getrennt voneinander vergoren und ausgebaut. Nach 24 Monaten Reifung in französischen Eichenfässern mit einem Fassungsvermögen von 300 und 225 Litern wird die Cuvée vermischt. Das Ergebnis ist ein rubinroter Wein mit einer feinen Struktur. In der Nase entfalten sich köstliche Aromen von Brombeeren, Pflaumen, schwarzen Johannisbeeren und Gewürzen. Am Gaumen ist dieser Wein weich, mit abgerundeten Tanninen und Noten von Schokolade und Gewürzen im vollen und langen Abgang.

The Mooiplaas winery, is located in the Botterlary Hills near Stellenbosch, the oldest town in South Africa and the vineyards are part of a private nature reserve of unspoilt beauty. Prehistoric mineral soils nourish the vines on the steep slopes and form the backbone of the juicy, deep wines with their fruity and minerally structure.
Owner and winemaker Louis Roos ferments the musts spontaneously in small oak barrels using the natural yeast in the traditional way. Here he blends two iconic Bordeaux grape varieties: c60% Merlot and c40% Cabernet Franc. The Merlot brings fruit and elegance, while the Cabernet Franc adds delicious spice and structure.
The Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes are fermented and aged separately. After 24 months of aging in 300- and 225-litre French oak barrels, the cuvée is blended. The result is a ruby-red wine with a fine structure. You'll find delightful aromas of blackberry, plum, blackcurrant and spice on the nose. This wine is soft on the palate, with rounded tannins and notes of chocolate and spice on the full and long finish.

The Roos Family Merlot / Cabernet Franc is a blend of two iconic Bordeaux varieties. Merlot brings fruit and elegance whilst the Cabernet Franc adds perfume, spice and structure. This is a medium-bodied wine with aromas of blackcurrants, mulberries and a hint of fynbos on the nose. Soft, rounded tannins, well-balanced with a lingering finish. A great companion for grilled beef, venison and tomato based vegetarian dishes.
